Natural timber changes gently with light, touch, and humidity. Regular care is less about keeping it pristine and more about preventing avoidable damage while allowing the surface to develop naturally.

A simple cleaning routine

Dust with a soft, dry cloth. For everyday marks, use a lightly damp cloth and dry the surface promptly. Avoid abrasive pads, strong household cleaners, and leaving water standing on the timber, particularly around joins and edges.

Respond to spills and heat early

Wipe spills as soon as practical, and use coasters or mats beneath hot, wet, or strongly coloured items. Direct heat and prolonged moisture can mark a finish even when the timber beneath remains sound.

When to seek advice

If an oiled surface begins to look dry, uneven, or noticeably more absorbent, it may be ready for maintenance. Deep scratches, loose joints, or persistent stains are better assessed before attempting a repair, so the right treatment can be chosen for the existing finish.
